How
far is Cascada de las Animas from Santiago?
How do we get there?
We are located approximately
60 kilometers southeast of Santiago. It is about a one hour drive
from the city limits over a well paved, winding mountain road. Plan for it to take longer
if you are traveling on a weekend during the summer and fall due
to heavier tourist traffic moving in and out of the canyon. For specific information about how to get here, go to this page.
Which days are you open?
What are your hours of operation?
We are open everyday of the year including all holidays. Our reception desk and telephone lines are open from 08:30 AM until 10:00 PM, and our internet coorespondance is answered everyday excluding holidays and weekends. Our restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday with varying hours depending upon the season, and our bar is open until 2:00 AM on Saturday nights.
How do I make a reservation?
You may request a reservation using our website reservation form, in person and over the telephone. In most cases we require a 50% deposit to confirm a reservation. Unless otherwise stated, all of our prices are listed in Chilean pesos. For complete information on our policies, please click on the reservations link on our website.
Do you accept foreign currencies, credit cards, debit cards, personal checks or travelers checks?
In addtion to Chilean Pesos, we accept US Dollars and Euros for payment. We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express credit cards and many debit cards for payment at our reception desk and at our restaurant. We do not add a surcharge to credit card purchases. We also accept personal checks drawn on Chilean banks and travelers checks from major banks or institutions. We will require that you present a passport or other offical ID when using these forms of payment. If you need to access to an ATM, there is one available in the town of San Jose del Maipo 15 kilometers from us. San Jose is easily accessible by public transportation.
What
is the weather like at Cascada de las Animas?
The weather in the
central Andes of Chile varies tremendously during the year. Our
summers are generally hot and dry with very little rain. Winters
are often cold and we usually have some light snowfall and rain, often interspersed
with periods of clear, warm weather. In fact winter weather is impossible to predict
so you should be prepared for varied conditions. Spring and Autumn
months are transitional and can include cold and rainy days, but are most often warm and sunny with occasional periods of rain. If weather is a major concern for you, you should check
the current weather conditions for Santiago Chile before your arrival.
How should I dress?
At Cascada de las Animas we dress casually and encourage our guests to do so as well. Our resort is centered around soft adventure activities so you should bring clothing that is appropriate for this if you wish to take full advantage of what we have to offer. In the summer months, sun protection is a must, so be sure to have sunglasses, lip balm, sunscreen and a visored hat. Sport sandals and lightweight hiking boots or walking shoes are also highly recommended. If specialized equipment is needed for an activity, we will provide it. In winter, you should bring clothing for all types of weather, including snow and rain.
Is
the water drinkable?
All of our tap water comes from natural mineral springs located in the Nature Sanctuary and is of the very best quality with no pollutants or chemicals of
any kind. If you are unsure or have an especially delicate system and wish to purchase bottled water, we have it available for sale in our restaurant.
Is there shopping nearby where I can purchase food or souvenir items?
During the summer season and on most holidays and weekends, we have a small store open withing the resort where you may make small purchases of snack items, souvenir clothing and local crafts. You will also find a small convenience-type
store a short walk (one hundred meters) from our main entrance that stocks most of the items that you may want. The nearest supermarket is located 15 kilometers away in the town of San Jose de Maipo. For
larger shopping sprees you will need to go to Santiago.
What is the voltage in Chile?
Can I plug in my electrical appliances?
Electric current in Chile is supplied at 220 Volts, 50 Hertz. If your home country uses less voltage. be sure to check your appliance voltage before pluging in to avoid damage. Most North American electronic appliances and laptop computers usually come fitted with an internal adapter. We use a two and three prong European style plug in Chile, and you may purchase a simple plug adaptor at many shops if needed. Voltage transformers may also be purchased in any electrical goods shop.

Can my young children participate?
We have a wide selection of trips ranging from demanding to fairly relaxed and easy. To fully enjoy an adventure activity, it is always advised to be in good physical condition. In most cases no previous experience is necessary. Children are welcome on most of our adventures, however a few are age restricted for safety reasons.
